Autumns Over Baby

Image
Winter has arrived with a flourish in Cape Town. Pouring rains and howling winds have sent many running for cover. Must say I am always amused at the way capetonians respond to winter...its always with such surprise, like : WHAT?? Its raining! Omicat, what are we going to do?  Definitely have to drive 30km/h and stop for no reason to try find the windscreen wipers. I dont really mind winter as long as I am able to avoid being whiplashed by rain. The combination of gale-force wind AND rain kinda makes me grumpy. I plan my days carefully. Underground parking always taken into consideration. That being said I did not go run today. There were breaks in the rain but I just dont have warm enough running gear. My little skorts and tank tops will NOT suffice.  I went into New Balance today to get some winter stuff and almost fainted at the prices...long running tights R350, long sleeve winter running tee R250 and water resistant running jacket R450.   I have to say tho...

Pressure, but not Mine

I have been amazed at children's ability to absorb the amount of stuff required of them. Not just my kids but those of my friends aswell. To give you some idea of what is in Honey's immediate future (ie next 10 days) Technology project Poetry competition Assessments begin (daily revision required) Violin recital All words to be memorised for role as Puck Play rehearsals twice a week  Bearing in mind her regular violin, piano and swimming commitments. Honey is completely unstressed. I, on the other hand, am feeling some pressure because we all know who is responsible for making sure everything gets done! Fortunately a wise woman (my sis) reminded me to take it in MY stride (like my daughter) and just stay calm and postive about it all. How do you guys deal with school pressure as parents?

Officially All Grown Up

It happened some time last month. I wrote an email. She responded. And then it was delivered yesterday. All this stuff. That I paid money for. Money that I could have spent on shoes. Or lattes. The proof of my adulthood? My very own tupperware. *faint*

Today...

The school run went well. No drama this morning or at drop-offs. I decided to do what I want to do today.  So I made breakfast and watched The Kardashians. Then I made a fire. And started watching Fame - the 1980's version. But thought it best to put a load of washing on - cos my char comes to iron tomorrow. And maybe square up the kitchen and take meat out the freezer. Oh, and get the kids worksheets/ activity sheets printed for this afternoon. And maybe I should be getting some exercise as the sloth is growing into beast inside me. I would run but its freezing and raining so its the Trek to gym for me shortly. Lovely not to have to chase around though...and we have an awesomely quiet afternoon ahead - with revision for upcoming assessments, violin practise for recital next week and of course - running of lines for the play! At least we do not have to leave the house though. Small mercies. Howz your days looking peoples? :-)
